The infrared thermometer does work as stated. I was extremely dissappointed in the fact that I need to constantly wash my hands while using it because of the warning that it may "contain lead" and I mainly wanted to use it in the kitchen. If I had been aware of the "lead" problem, I would not have purchased it.
