The IRT0421 Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer with Laser is designed to accurately measure temperature from a distance. Simply pull the trigger and aim the pistol grip thermometer at an object using the laser indicator and the unit will provide an accurate temperature measurement in less than a second. The IRT0421 has an advanced highly accurate infrared sensor with a Distance to Spot Ratio of 12 to 1. It uses two AAA batteries instead of the 9-volt battery commonly found in less capable units. With its low voltage application-specific integrated circuit , battery life is increased by up to 60%.
This infrared thermometer provides accurate readings over a broad range of temperatures from -76 to 932 Degrees Fahrenheit (-60 to 500 Degrees Celsius). It displays both the current temperature and maximum temperature on the bright backlit LCD display. Advanced ergonomic design and rugged construction for industrial environments, the IRT0421 comes with a nylon holster for easy storage and transportation. This non-contact infrared thermometer has been designed for a broad range of uses including automotive diagnostics, HVAC service, electrical troubleshooting, cooking and food preparation, and hobbies.

These IR thermometers are not ideal for high accuracy in small areas (e.g., if you need to measure the temperature along a small-scale gradient), but are very good for general purposes.
You might want to consider the effect of reflective surfaces and differences in the emissivity of different materials, and the temperature/convection of the air layer above the target surface.

I work in a large supermarket where we are responsible for monitoring the temperatures of all the refrigerated cases and the freezer units. The thermometers that are built into the cases are not always reliable, as they are affected by things such as the air around them as well as product placed nearby. The laser thermometer is the preferred method for checking those cases that are in question as far as the holding temperature, and upon occasion we have checked the temperature of the actual product to ensure it is at the proper holding temperature.
This unit KINTREX IRT0421 Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer with Laser Targeting is a wonderful product; easy to read display, as well as the ability to read an enormous range of both positive and negative temperatures - ideal for commercial use where there are both cooler units and freezer units.
The only thing that I would have wanted to see was an adjustable wrist strap included; this unit does not come with a wrist strap at all, although to its credit it does have a place to attach one. Not using a wrist strap is not wise due to the inevitable occurrences of the thermometer getting dropped onto a very hard tile-over-cement floor!
Overall, this unit is a very reliable one - I recommend it highly!

Works great for the money. No need for the high dollar ones this one will do the job needed for around the house. Quick and accurate temperatures compared to a standard thermometer.

Very happy with the purchase of Kintrex Infrared thermometer. I use it to monitor tire temperatures on a large RV trailer. Instant readings and very user friendly.

I ran into this tool at a local motorcycle shop. I pulled in my bike and the salesman gave me a lecture on tire pressure, then took out a few pounds off my tires. When I checked with the dealer-mechanic, he brought out this tool and immediately found out that the tires were HOT. I had to wait for a while for the tires to cool off but this tool came in handy. There are numerous instances where this device can be used. Check temp. of surface where you might put your child, check ANY area from distance before you touch. Not for medical use.
